Michael Arbulú, born in Lima, Perú, began his artistic journey at the age of 5, with the realization that with clay and through drawing he could create his own world. Stifled and frustrated by the constraints of formal schooling, his most important educational experiences came under the guidance and encouragement of his father, Angel Arbulú, an architect. His father shared an interest in art and helped him to develop an inquisitive mind and the power to create a physical representation of anything the mind can imagine.
At the age of 18, he wandered off the beach and into an art gallery at the Toulouse - Lautrec College for Communication and Design in Lima Perú. He enrolled at the school and majored in graphic design.
In 2012 he earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. His current work combines his breadth and depth of knowledge in the fields of architecture,
industrial and graphic design, fabrication and fine art.
“Michael Arbulu is an individual who is passionate about design and how design can affect the
stewardship of our planet and our moral, spiritual and physical relationship with one another. He has a natural interest in biological forms and processes and this has influenced his design approach in industrial design and architecture. He seeks, not only to mimic the shapes and forms of nature, but, more importantly, to understand the how’s and why’s of that organism, to make that form successfully survive the way it does, in its particular environment.”
